Microneedling

How Microneedling Works

Microneeding penetrates the skin and creates micro-openings deep into the dermis that stimulate the body’s natural healing process. This natural healing process releases growth factors and stimulates collagen, elastin, and fibroblast cell production that leads to tightening and lifting of the skin.

Microneedling increases new collagen production and remodels old deformed collagen which is found in scars, wrinkles, large pores, and stretch marks. It can make facial skin look youthfully thicker and reduce signs of aging.*

The micro-opening can also stimulate the growth of epithelial cells that line blood capillaries and vessels that increase blood flow to the skin. The healing process lasts for about 45 days and optimal results are seen at that time.*

The treatment results are similar to laser treatments but without the severe side effects or the long recovery time. Micro-needling is less costly and can be just as effective as fractional, radio-frequency and CO2 laser treatments, microdermabrasion and chemical peels. The procedure can be performed on any area of the body where skin tightening and skin rejuvenation are desired. It is a great non-invasive, non-surgical facelift option. To achieve the best results, a series of treatments is recommended.*

Once these channels are opened, they can carry up to eighty percent more of topical platelet-rich plasma (Blood Lift), hyaluronic acid and peptides, deep into the dermis to nourish fibroblasts and other skins cells that stimulate cellular repair, rejuvenation, and regeneration.*

Microneedling can be used to tighten sagging skin, improve skin tone, texture, discoloration, melisma and milia (white raised transparent bumps), reduce fine lines, Crow’s feet, expression lines, scars, and wrinkles, and minimize acne scars and stretch marks. Microneedling is a non-surgical facelift option that can achieve the benefits of surgery without its downside.*

Prior To Treatment

  • Avoid Retin-A, benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid for at least
    12 hours prior to treatment
  • Avoid auto-immune or anticoagulant medications at 12 hours prior to treatment
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure or tanning at least 12 hours to treatment
  • Thoroughly wash and clean your face and don’t wear makeup on the day of the procedure

What Can I Expect

The treatment is minimally invasive with no downtime. A full-face treatment usually takes about an hour. Prior to the treatment, the face is numbed with a topical anesthetic cream for at about 20 minutes. The face is then treated using the Dermapen micro-needling pen. The treatment makes tiny skin pinholes that leave the skin red and triggers the rejuvenation process. Patients can expect redness, itching, stinging, tightness and swelling following a treatment that usually resolves within a few days. Microneedling can be combined with mesotherapy and sub-dermal PRP injection to enhance results.

When Will I See Results

Skin improvements can usually be seen about just 6-8 days following treatment and results improve up to 90 days later. A course of sessions (serial treatments) is usually recommended to achieve optimal results. It is recommended that treatments are spaced four to six weeks apart*

Who Should Not Have A Microneedling Treatment

Patients with the following conditions should not receive a Derma Pen treatment: skin infections, inflammation, redness, rashes or open skin lesions, pregnant women, recent topical or oral steroids use, active cold sores, blood clotting, and auto-immune disorders, diabetics, keloids, sunburn, or Accutane use within six months.
