Kybella is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment to melt away stubborn chin fat that won’t go away even with diet and exercise. Kybella (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness (double chin) due to submental(chin) fat. Kybella is indicated for improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe convexity or fullness associated with submental fat in adults.

SUBMENTAL FULLNESS (Chin Fat aka Double Chin)

Patients asking about their submental fullness may, at times, refer to it as their double chin.

It is a common, yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition that can:

  • Detract from an otherwise balanced and harmonious facial appearance
  • Lead to an older and heavier look
  • Impact a broad range of adults, including both women and men
  • Be caused by aging, genetics, and/or weight gain

Kybella is a non-human and non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into subcutaneous fat, Kybella causes lysis of adipocytes, the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

The treatment takes about 30 minutes. A topical anesthetic is applied thirty minutes prior to treatment. The area is clean and a paper grid is applied to the skin. A tiny needle is then used to inject Kybella into the treatment area. Burning tingling may occur for 5 to 10 minutes after the injection treatment, therefore, ice is applied to the area unlike the sensation subsides.

Puffiness and tenderness may occur for a few weeks after the treatment. Treatments are done every six to eight weeks until the desired effect is achieved. Most patients see their desired visible results in 2 to 3 treatments. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved, re-treatment is not expected.

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy, pioneered in the 1950s by French physician Dr. Michel Pistor, is the painless delivery of vitamins, minerals, medications, and amino acids placed topically and delivered through the skin painlessly. Mesotherapy has a variety of applications including weight loss, cellulite reduction, face, and neck rejuvenation, and hair regrowth. Therefore, the solution is individually prepared depending on its purpose. Unlike other medical treatments, mesotherapy is administered directly to the desired area. This limits side-effects and  reduces the possibility of drug interactions, and allows for a substantial reduction in the amount of medicine utilized for each procedure.*
